Aprendamos is a contemporary series of social impact projects designed to spark connection, incubate ideas, and accelerate toward positive community change in Costa Rica.

Art is our Tool.

The Aprendamos engine positively impacts the community of Nosara and of Costa Rica through: community events, artistic programming, local neighborhood experiences, fueling entrepreneurial ideas. Aprendamos and supporters believe in the important role of art in our changing world. It seeks to amplify the expression of local, national and visiting artists’ voices. Through lovingly creating art places and art projects in Costa Rica, we create new platforms for public showcase, channels for artistic advancement and most of all, promote culture and inclusive community belonging.

Jacquelyn founded Aprendamos in 2021. She co-created its inaugural projects: Nido Creativo, So.Nido and has funded several Artivism and art festival programs to showcase Costa Rican talent and bring an integrated community together through the shared language of art.

Aprendamos unites artists, invites community and urges humanity to pursue harmony, peace and social good.

“In this work we see bridges and new pathways for community participation, places for re-connection, and a deep will of this generation to protect our ecosystems here in Costa Rica.”

The season’s seminal project, a residency platform named Nido Creativo, was sponsored by 5D Gives and invited artists from within Costa Rica and abroad to share space and bring life to the Nido Creativo House. The pilot season focused on various creative modalities, including music, art, and movement, and sought to accelerate positive action and raise collective consciousness through artwork and community connection. The residency, in this first iteration 2021-2023, offered co-living and enablements to over 22 successful artist residencies, artist visits and many potluck dinners, all with a focus on providing a safe space for artistic creation and community convening. The project committed to supporting local and national artists in expanding their practice and building a creative economy and networks for their talents.

From our affordable housing in Pelada, we not only had space for artists to create freely but also helped facilitate artist projects for the community such as; renovating and bringing water to the Santa Marta community center, numerous murals and public art devoted to raising awareness for environmental issues, interactive art installations, and music lessons and after-school programs for local children. Each artist project created for and in community, reflects our core belief that we should prioritize safe space for artistic expression and convening like friends and neighbours as we plan our future cities and towns.

Incredible thanks to 5D Gives, Confedde, and all our participating and contributing artists.

I can say this last month I have created more than I have in a year. I have created daily, whether it’s to release emotion or evoke it, for a client or for myself, and I have sunk into a rhythm and flow state again. For this I am deeply grateful.

The pandemic tried to crush my spirit. I lost all my income and found myself having to hold space and be the rock for many other artists on the brink of their mental health. To come here and relax, feel freedom, nature and this deep love, has been a true blessing, thank you.
